Let's analyse some facts about this report. So firstly let me tell you that this is not very old report. This report has been started in 2012 following UN high level meeting on "Well-being and happiness: Defining a new economic paradigm".
In 2021 edition of the report, India has been ranked 139 out of 149 countries observed. India has emerged as the saddest country in its neighbourhood for example you can see other countries ranking China-84 , Sri Lanka-129 and Pakistan-105th .
Let me tell you something about history of ranking of India in world happiness report for example India has been ranked 144th out of 156 countries in 2020 ranking,it has been ranked 140th out of 156 countries in 2019,in 2018 ,6th edition of report got published in which India's position was 133th out of 156 countries observed and talking about 2016 report India's rank was 118th out of 156 countries.
So you have probably noticed a pattern of India's ranking every year. It is worsening since the report has been started to get publish.
Let me explain you the 6 factors on which report get published every year-
1. GDP per capita- You have probably noticed that in last few years how this data is only driven by few wealthy people of country.
2. Life expectancy- You have probably noticed that people don't want to live a life without any employment,so cases of suicide are also increasing gradually. If we take overall image condition of hospitals is very bad in our country and if we see data of life expectancy in India, it's not good enough.
3. Freedom from corruption- If you analyse about Indian society throughly, you can say that the problem of corruption is still prevalent in our country more or less compared to past.
4. Freedom to make life choices- If you see our society, you can easily figure out patriarchal nature of the families in our society, I have written many articles on this topic in the past also. But you need not to have any superpowers to observe this evil in society.
5. Generosity- If you analyse our society properly, you will see that concept of generosity is gradually vanishing from our society. Generosity, sympathy these words have become outdated today.
6. Someway to count on (social security)- Today people in India have no certainty about present then they even don't know what will happen in their future. Government's wrong policies are responsible for these uncertainties whether it was noteban or wrong implementation of GST . Whether it is wrong way of abrogation of article 370 or increasing inflation.
I can describe a no. Of problems why our ranking is continuously decreasing.
These were 6 main indicators on which the index is based on by the way Let me tell you that Finland has topped the ranking followed by some Scandinavian countries. Let me tell you that Scandinavian countries always top the index, whether it's Finland, Norway or Denmark.
